Order of the White Rose, Grand Cross w/ Collar chain & breast star (Grand Gordon)
Highest Finnish Order of Chivalry. Magnificent set of country’s only colllar chain. 1st type with swastikas and heraldic roses on collar.
Criteria allows this class to be awarded only to head of State, so the recipients are usually Presidents or monarchic rulers of their country. Between 1919 and 1963 only 46 Grand Gordons of this type were awarded.
Traditionally many sets have been returned to the Order’s Chancellery or preserved in museums. It is very scarce that any have ever appeared in to collector’s market.

Collar as well as breast star are gild silver and marked by manufacturer in year 1946. Condition is excellent.Four sets of Grand Gordons were made and hallmarked 1946 by manufacturer Tillander in Finland. This set is most likely originally given to Boudouin, King of Belgium in 1954. This is the first type Grand Gordon with swastikas on collar. King Boudouin requested 2nd type replacement award in 1967 (Swastikas replaced with heraldic spruce designs). The later on is in Belgium displayed with other King Boudouin’s awards. Two out of four 1946 made sets are returned to Finland and according to latest information 3rd one is in museum at the home country of awardee./
